Think as the guest would.
The idea came from a friend visiting from Taiwan. She had no Japanese, and just checking into her hotel was a struggle.
After that I walked back and forth between Dotonbori and Nipponbashi, trying to see what the people on these streets really needed.
In 2012 I opened my first small inn in Namba Sennichimae. I looked after every guest myself, from check-in to check-out.
I have slept in every room myself.
Lying there, it was always the same question: if I were a guest arriving in this country for the first time, what would I want this place to be?
With that question in mind, in 2016 I bought an office building beside the electronics streets of Nipponbashi. It had never been an inn. Saikoukan opened in May 2017.
I didn't open an inn. I left a small story of my own in a street that already had a few hundred years of them.
